If you’re wondering if you need a new roof or roof repaired then read on and see what type of roof is best for your home depending on its age, your home’s style, and where you live.
Homes are built quite differently in the San Gabriel Valley so you need a local roofing contractor who knows the many types of homes.
You may not realize how many different types of homes there are in just a few cities like Pasadena and neighboring Altadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. Driving through the neighborhoods gives clues as to when building booms happened and the types of roofing needs that homeowners have.
Hard to believe the area was once fertile farmland and orange groves.
Let’s take a tour.
Garvey Roofing offers free estimates on roofing and a one-of-a-kind guarantee with all labor and materials guaranteed.
Pasadena – Altadena
You can tell a development happened in the 1920s if you visit the neighborhoods west of Lake Avenue and north of Washington Boulevard. Streets like Rio Grande, Ladera Street, and others were built in the ‘20s. Most of the homes are just over 1,000 square feet and have lower pitched roofs.
In the Janz Village section of Altadena, the homes were built in the 1930s and have roofs that are quite steep.
Pasadena and Monrovia are known for bungalow-style homes fashioned after the famed Gamble House and built in the 1930s and 1940s.
Drive in the upper reaches of Pasadena and Altadena along Loma Alta and Rubio Canyon and you’ll see tracts of mid-century modern homes with clean lines, nearly floor-to-ceiling glass windows and flat roofs.
Upper Hastings Ranch is a full development of mid-century modern.
Plenty of contemporary homes built in the 1970s to current day fill streets along New York Drive toward Pasadena High School and Eaton Canyon.
Arcadia – Monrovia
Homes in Arcadia have a ranch-style look and many had wood shake shingles.
Recent architecture resulted in sprawling homes on small lots with tile roofs.
Monrovia continues this look from historic to contemporary.
Garvey Roofing will handle all types of roofs.
If you’re needing a new roof installed then right type of roof depends on your home’s structure and the roof’s pitch.
Many homes from Pasadena and Altadena to Monrovia need a blend of flat roof material and either asphalt shingles or tile.
